Hi all, please bear with me as I have a bit of that obligatory self promotion to do here.

I was surprised to find out last week that I was shortlisted for the Sony World Photography Awards in London, England in the Campaign category.

I was even more surprised, floored and equally ecstatic and terrified (too many adjectives I know) to be receiving the Tom Hanson Photojournalism Award and to be shooting for The Canadian Press this summer.

Alright that’s enough writing and back to pictures…

JANUARY 23, 2012– Jules Peter Paivio, last living Canadian veteran of the International Brigades for the Republic during the Spanish Civil War, in his nursing home in Aurora, Ontario on Monday, January 23, 2012.
