Here are a few pics from this month…

TORONTO: MARCH 19, 2012– Edyta Tobiasz, who was trapped in her Mazda after she was crushed under a tractor-trailer, is driven away after walking out of St. Michael’s hospital in Toronto without a broken bone on Monday, March 19, 2012. (Michelle Siu for The Globe and Mail)
Yeah for A1!
I kinda feel the need to write a bit of a side note on this assignment. It may not seem like the toughest picture to get but the reporter and I went to the hospital on the incredibly slim chance we could catch her. We didn’t have her name or even a proper description but wanted to hear from her and put a face to a story that had such a positive ending. I was also that “awful photographer” on this day, following the person who just survived a horrendous car crash and probably just wanted to go home. We split up covering possible entrances. And in the end, luck and I suppose stalker instinct helped. (I am seriously considering adding stalking to my resume).

Ok so the following pics aren’t the most visually exciting assignments but it’s been a pretty interesting month of municipal and provincial politics (threat of inside workers strike, transit vote, Ornge debacle, library workers stirkes). Got to hand it to good old Ford for making city hall assignments a helluva lot more interesting to shoot.
TORONTO: MARCH 22, 2012–Toronto mayor Rob Ford (right) frowns as Councillor Gloria Lindsay Luby (left) gives the thumbs up joining the majority who voted in favour for the hotly contested light rail transit on Sheppard Avenue East at Toronto City Hall on Thursday March 22, 2012. This comes as a big loss to the mayor who has repeatedly opposed LRT and made promises for subways in the last election. (Michelle Siu for The Globe and Mail)
